Water Well Chlorination
Nearly every well owner will at one point of another have someone advise them to "shock the well" to solve a particular problem. This refers to the practice of chlorination of the well to protect it from coliform, iron, and sulfer bacteria. "Shock" involves introducing chlorine directly to the well itself. It is vital that the well owner suspects bacteria in their well that they contact their county health deaprtment or a water well professional. Regular testing will reveal the need of chlorination as well as expose other potential health problems from contaminated water.
